Neurodiversity
Some of us have a neurotypical brain, and some have a neurodivergent brain (different to the norm). Autism and ADHD are examples of a neurodivergent brain.
All neurotypes are important, valued, and critical to society. Many neurodivergent people feel forced to mask their neurotype in order to ‘fit in’. Sadly, this often leads to many issues.
Neurodivergent Affirming Care
Autism does not need to be fixed or cured. It’s not a disorder. It’s simply a different way of thinking, feeling and interacting.
"Neurodiversity may be the birthplace of some of humanity’s greatest minds" - Harvey Bloome

Autism and ADHD are now celebrated within the range of neurodiversity. Whilst these are not a disorder, they are a disability, but one that has unique gifts and strengths.

The neurodiversity affirming approach focusses on inclusion and acceptance of all neurotypes. It’s informed by trauma research and the social model of disability.
It challenges the medical model of disability.
It’s also about identifying our unique strengths.
We believe that our neurotype is essential to society and that we deserve respect.
We (neurokin) are the experts in neurodiversity, not neurotypical individuals.
Hi, I’m Amy!
I'm the Director of Neurokin Psychology.
I'm a clinical psychologist who is also an 'auDHDer'.
I love to support my fellow neurokin.
Welcome to your safe space.
I've got a special interest in supporting late identified auDHDer folk with complex chronic illness, with a key focus on Ehler-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and so on.
I have what we call the 'trifecta'- EDS, POTS, MCAS (and co).
I know what it's like to experience complex chronic illness, medical gaslighting, medical trauma and decades of misdiagnoses. I discovered myself that I am a zebra, and later got this formally diagnosed.
I get you.
🦓
I've worked as a psychologist for over 20 years, and I have a Master of Clinical Psychology. I'm an Accredited EMDR Practitioner (meaning I have a done a lot of this), and a Board Approved Supervisor (meaning I provide supervision to other psychologists).
I offer individual therapy, assessments, supervision and training. I strive to make sure that you feel heard, respected, and supported.
Neurokin Psychology core values are empathy, compassion, authenticity, respect, collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
I am passionate about being neuroaffirming, trauma-informed and trauma-responsive. I am also very passionate about being inclusive and respectful. I strive to provide neurodiversity, disability, and LGBTQ+ affirming care.
I am incredibly passionate about providing care and resources to others with similar experiences. Together, we'll find clarity and build strategies that help you thrive.
